I was mostly successful. I sewed two items this week: a purse and a skirt, both for my daughter. I started a flannel nightshirt for her too. And we are going through a huge pile of our favorite summer fabric, Tutti-Frutti, to decide what will become summer garments and what will be part of a patchwork picnic blanket.
Yes, we do have a lot of this fabric.
These are just scraps from garments already made. Every piece of this fabric holds a memory.
So, I still have work to do but it's mostly pleasant work now: sewing! Turning this fabric into something useful and lovely. Tough job but someone's got to do it.
This week's theme is negative conversation. I have negative conversations with myself all the time. It's easy to do when there is fabric all over the floor in one room, camping equipment that needs to be put away in another room, and about 32 wet towels on the floor from the dog-washing adventure. When I start the negative talk I stop and pray. That usually fixes it for me. What about you?

Hurray for fabric organizing!! I received 37 yards of fabric this week from Fabric.com and had to make room for it! Great job and I have some tutti-frutti too!
Maybe if I get all my fabric & sewing stuff in order, I'll actually SEW! Love what you're doing, and those are pretty fabrics. :)
I have a question for you. I'm interested in buying a cheap but solid sewing machine. I want to be able to sew denim and canvas. Fancy stitching and embroidering don't matter much. Any suggestions? Used would be OK if the price is right.
Hey Dadvocate - My sewing machine is a very basic White which I bought used at a grubby vac-n-sew repair shop about 13 years ago. I have looked at other machines but have no real reason to buy a new one because mine keeps working.
Viking/Husqvarna seems to be the best brand. A used machine might be better for your use than a new one because the older ones are actually metal, not plastic.
When you shop, check out the old time vac-n-sew repair shop and not the local fabric store. The fabric store will try to sell you more machine than you want. The repair guy will give you better advice.
At least that's my experience, and things others have told me.

What am I going to make??
First I want to make a simple canvas dog pillow/mattress for my dog that has a zipper than I can fill with cedar chips, empty and refill. I've seen simple plans for making change purses, duffel bags and book bags out of blue jeans. I thought that'd be neat.
I was hoping my daughter might get back into sewing. She won a blue ribbon at the state fair in Louisville, KY 3-4 years ago for a skirt she made but hasn't done much since.
