Hubris, not humility

Just a snip from Senator Obama's speech (emphasis mine):

"I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth."

Gah. Humility? I think he's starting to believe all that messiah stuff. Maybe he always has.

The whole speech can be found at Real Clear Politics, and you can read some comments on the passage I quoted here at Commentary.

Thoughts of his becoming president are enough to ruin my entire day, so I'm going to skip the speech. Our country has very serious problems. I'm glad your husband is in seminary, because we need a revival.

Oh, that's scary, scary stuff. I've thought from the beginning that that man is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and he just proves it every time he opens his mouth.

Any one person who believes he or she is fit, or rather, deserves the America's highest, most powerful seat in America must have a god-like arrogance. Why else would someone choose to wield so much power?

I never thought there was someone who could scare me worse than Hillary...

Ed - I don't know... confidence is one thing but really, that oceans thing is just over the top. When he knows he's been tagged "Obamessiah" and "Obamoses" you'd think he'd take care not to make claims of biblical proportions. (Maybe I read Obamoses for the first time today though. But still.)

It's going to be an interesting few months.

It is a scary thought, but maybe America is finally going to get what America deserves. I think maybe God has given "her" so many chances, but "she" continues to fail at every turn.

Yeah, it's too bad Obama has never said anything besides "change." Okay, great. Now explain yourself. What does that mean, Obama? With Hollywood on his side, and throngs of young supporters, however, it's more about the "how" and less about the "what," I guess. Reminds me of the movie "Idocracy."
